How long would your solar power last during a blackout?
Aug 1, 2026
At Safe Power, we hear the same issue again and again: solar panels are great during the day, but at night, still buying expensive grid power. That’s exactly what Michelle and her family in the San Fernando Valley were facing.
Their 6.6 kW solar system exported most of their generation for decreasing solar credits, while their quarterly bills climbed to $650 – and hit $900 during heat waves. Then a wildfire power cut left them without power for six hours, spoiling $200 of food. That’s when they called us.
Here’s what we delivered for them.
A system that grows with their family
Michelle worried that a 10 kWh battery might not be enough in a few years – with two teenagers, a home office, and a planned EV. We showed them our expandable stack design: start with 5.3 kWh, add modules up to 21.2 kWh later, without changing the inverter or rewiring. They chose two modules (10.6 kWh) for now, with the freedom to expand anytime. No waste, no trouble.
Reliable in any weather—hot or cold
Valley summers hit 40°C+. Garages turn into ovens. Some batteries shut down or reduce output. Others struggle in winter cold. We installed our IP65‑rated outdoor unit on the shady side of her house, with a sun canopy for summer and thermal management for year‑round stability. Through weeks of extreme heat, the system never dropped. Cold mornings? No problem. It just works.
Daily savings and blackout protection
We set their home energy app once: “prioritise solar self‑use, charge from the grid only during off‑peak hours.” Now their battery charges overnight at cheap rates, soaks up solar surplus during the day, and powers their evening – greatly reducing peak‑grid draw. Their latest quarterly bill dropped from $650 to $210 – saving over $1,700 a year.
And when another safety‑related power cut hit their neighbourhood, their lights stayed on, fridge kept running, and Wi‑Fi never dropped – all powered by their Safe Power battery for 12 hours, while neighbours rushed for power banks.
The result? Confidence
Michelle no longer checks the weather before cooking dinner, wakes up to a dark fridge, or wastes her solar energy. She’s already recommended us to three neighbours – one already installed.
We don’t promise magic numbers for every home – usage and rates vary. But we do promise a reliable, scalable system that pays for itself in daily savings and peace of mind. That’s what we delivered for Michelle, and that’s what we can deliver for you.
